aboutus

Defy Therapy Services LLC is a private Speech and Language Pathology practice located in Wilmington, Delaware.

Specializing in neurological recovery, Defy Therapy Services provides client-centered speech therapy to target functional goals within the home and community setting.

After a patient receives clinical care for an acquired brain injury, the transition back into the everyday environment is often difficult. At Defy, we partner with the patient and family to work within the patient's environment and provide the support, resources, and therapy needed to function every day.

Services include:

  • Cognitive communication deficits

  • Feeding and swallowing

  • Language deficits

  • Speech intelligibility

  • Communication/swallowing with a trach/vent

  • Concussion

  • Feeding Therapy with the use of Neuromuscular Stimulation (NMES)

    • What is NMES? Eating and swallowing is complex in nature and is often impacted when a person sustains a neurological insult. While traditional feeding therapy alone can advance skills back to baseline, this is not always the case for every individual. The addition of neuromuscular stimulation could be a tool to consider as part of your swallowing rehab treatment. This non-invasive FDA approved tool uses low grade stimulation, in conjunction with skilled feeding therapy, to further stimulate the musculature and cranial nerves that innervate the swallow. Through a comprehensive evaluation, your speech/feeding therapist will work with you to develop a personalized plan to address your specific swallowing deficits and work towards functional outcomes.
